Vintage Bakelite graduating green beaded necklace 1940's. Juicy green grapes strung with nylon and finished with hidden screw clasp. Grapes vary in size, 1 inch down to 1/4 inch. Total length almost 24 inches. In the 1940 - 1950 era, Bakelite was the most modern form of plastic, reasonably priced, colorful chunky and fun. You would find Bakelite in many different forms such as fashion jewelry, kitchen knife handles, door handles, decorative items, telephones, toys and more. The ingredients of Bakelite became controversial because of the chemicals used to manufacture the products and ultimately production was discontinued. This Bakelite necklace is in excellent condition.
